Major cable and satellite companies will have a "greater" competitor in the business. Looks like Google is about to take over your TV-Internet services. Discussions feature the intensifying battle for control of the television set.
Google is the king of ads on the Web and wants a share of the television ad dollars. Google threatens to undercut subscription fees that your cable/satellite providers may charge consumers. Their other efforts include the undercut of profitable subscription TV business model by fueling the availability of less costly online video.
Here's a twist to this, the reality is entertainment companies could refuse to license their programming;but at the same time, owners of channels could also be willing to license their channels to various distributors, including satellite-TV operators or even phone companies.
How far will Google go? Well, Google has launched Google TV, its software that can be installed in TVs or on cable TV set-top boxes. This helps consumers search and find content to watch from the Web and broadcast channels. A new version was of this software has already been released since last week.
Here's another possibility of Google's ambitions, YouTube. Some ideas are to expand its YouTube line up of channels by licensing a complement of cable channels for paying customers. This would literally turn YouTube into a "virtual" cable service, but such an idea is said t be "not on the table right now."
So what does this mean for companies like satellite moguls as Direct Tv, Dish Tv, & major cable/internet companies like AT&T, ComCast, etc.? Will they too jump on the Google band wagon? Only time will tell of what is to become of Google's uprising and how it will effect the internet, cable, satellite, television and our daily lives. Stay tuned and watch the video:
